This past weekend, Andrew celebrated his 36th birthday. We usually try to go out and spend some time together and we generally have a sitter. This year, we chose to break free from the normal, as well as the kids and spend a whole weekend together.
We left the kids with Andrew's parents. We drove up to Chatfield on Saturday morning and spend the afternoon with his family. They had a little birthday luncheon for him with a yummy Jimmy Carter dessert to end with. You can find the recipe here. It was very good. Even the kids wanted more. Who doesn't love chocolate and peanut butter?
We left around 3pm and on our way home, kidless, we tried to figure out where to go for dinner. I kept laughing and said this would be a good time to have a smart phone. LOL. Anyway, we opted to go home to take the dogs out and decide where to go. Andrew loves the House of Japan and we haven't been there in quite some time, so we decided to head over there. Our dinner was amazing and so good. The fried rice was delicious. Not that it is about me...but I could just go to eat that rice and sprouts! It is one of the few places Andrew can have a steak and the smell doesn't bother me! After dinner we headed over to Rave and watched Captain America, which I thought was a great movie! They were having problems with that theater and it started a little late so we missed he credits and the Avengers Movie preview, but oh well! Really, if you like comics and -we do- you should check it out! The rest of the night was a stormy mess...it rained and stormed FOR HOURS!
Sunday started out slow which is OK. We headed out to our favorite prekid place for lunch, THURMANS. We get here about once a year now. We wish we could do it more, but lets face it, 2 hour waits are just not KID friendly. We don't mind waiting b/c we know what we are getting. It is so fascinating to me to watch people come in and try to put their names in and hear the 2 hour wait time. So many people huff off:( A lot of them stay though--and it makes it cool to people watch. We got in after about 40 minutes as we are a party of two. See, they have several two seated high top tables which you can get if you have a party of two. We lucked out that day and we were the first party of two that showed up so we got in as soon as the first people who opened up the restaurant left:) We very much enjoyed out lunch and stayed to just enjoy each others company for a bit. The best thing about Thurman's other than the delicious food is the ambiance. This place is a jacked up hole in the wall. The seating sucks, the booths are uncomfortable...up until a few years ago, there was only one bathroom but the food and memories are priceless. It makes us happy and that is why we love it:)
Afterwards, we headed to our movie, back at Rave. We finally got to see Transformers. It was long, maybe a little overdone and the storeyline was a little too much a times. I think they tried to concentrate a little too much on the relationship and job loss and the mass destruction at the end was was a lot. But, I loved the special effects, and it was the END of the series, so I had to have some emotional attachment to it. After the movie, we headed to Target to get curtains and a rod for babies room! Finally, something is taking place. I can't wait to get it done.
We headed home and chilled out a bit and then decided to try to hit up another one of our favorite places, The Melting Pot, for dinner. Now normally, we have to make reservations awhile in advance, so when I hit up the online reservation website , The Open Table, and they had seating for us at 7:00. I jumped on it! We had a great dinner, skipped the "main meal" and enjoyed our dessert. It was a great!
It was a great weekend! I am glad we got to hang out and do somethings together. We had some good conversation and it was nice to be able to hold his hand crossing the street and not one of the kids'.
Much love to you my love. I hope you enjoyed your birthday weekend as much as I did:)

What a wonderful way to celebrate your hubby. Glad you two had a wonderful time. I've actually never been to Thurman's...I may have to try it.
